TCS Keep-Alive® (KA) devices are used to supply power to decoders during times of power interruption due to dirty track or problematic track work.
Newly-redesigned with a smaller overall footprint, the KA1 will power HO or N scale locomotives with approx. 30% of the capacitance of KA3/KA4 devices (depending on the locomotive and motor).
The KA1 will power an HO-Scale locomotive with headlights on for approximately 2 to 5 seconds (depending on the locomotive and the efficiency of the motor).
This Keep-Alive® includes a blue and a black w/ white stripe wire to attach it to a decoder.
Dimensions: 1.063" x 0.35" x 0.244" or 27mm x 8.9mm x 6.2mm

Easy and small
Connected this to an ESU Loksound 5 without any issue. The small size was great for the limited space available. Have been running a couple weeks without issue. The unit was installed in a Proto 1000 RDC with stock motor, LED headlight(s) and LED interior lighting.

This is a great item to add to your decoder installation. Simple to install and really makes a difference in how well you loco will run.

I've installed 4 of these, with both Soundtraxx and ESU decoders and they all work perfectly. The KA 1 is great for tight installations and provides a surprising amount of back-up power.

TCS KA1 Keep Alive
The smallest of all the onboard capacitors, the KA1 fits just about anywhere. I have installed two on Loksound 5 decoders in Atlas 1st gen diesels and they both work great. Just be advised you cannot use JMRI to program an LS5 decoder with a non-LS keep alive.
