PROTOTYPE SPECIFIC INFORMATION
By the early 1970s, many first generation diesels were reaching the end of their service lives. One of the most common replacement locomotives became the GP40-2. EMD began production of the 16-cylinder, turbocharged, 3000 horsepower engine in 1972. These locomotives were developed for service where higher horsepower and faster service were preferable. A major feature for the GP40-2 was the introduction of the "dash 2" modular electrical cabinet. For more than 40 years, the GP40-2 has worked main line freights, locals, switching jobs, yard service, and helper service. Many remain in service today.

Aethern Genesis GP40-2
OK, so I'm not the expert on locomotives, but I love this one. The detailing (for me) is excellent but no engineer included. Features Tsunami2 sound system and the start up sequence sounds awesome. Even the horn sounds better than my other locos.

Great model, fantastic detail
I have many Athearn Genesis locomotives, have been happy with all of them, and this one is no different. Factory installed decoder and speaker work great, it runs smooth, and has a lot of pulling power. The road number specific details are always a nice feature of this line, and I especially like the scheme on this one. All around a happy customer, as Yankee Dabbler consistently has a fair price on all the products they retail.
